Skins vs Hides
Very few animals have skins that can’t be tanned and made into leather. The skins of large animals are called HIDES, and those of smaller animals are called SKINS…cowhide, elk hide, steer hide, and calfskin, sheepskin, pigskin. You get the idea.
This dog leash is actually two in one! Use full length for a 4′ leash, or simply unclick the hardware for a shorter 2′ lead. (#LSH269, $72.00)

Mr. A.G. Buse of the Stetson Company retold a story that came from an oldtime scout and plainsman named Broncho John. “When a man wanted a hat in the old days, he got a piece of green rawhide, dug a hole in the ground about the size of his head, laid the wet, pliable rawhide over the hole, and shaped the crown into the hole by pressing it with grass and sand. The part forming the brim was pressed flat to the ground. After it was shaped and dried in the sun, the hat was smoked over a fire and it was perfectly waterproof.”

That great smell of Leather
The original leather/skin is in fact, odorless. That great smell of leather is actually derived from the materials used in the tanning process.
